The thermal nature of high p T photons in high energy nuclear collisions

چکیده

We discuss the recent status of some penetrating electromagnetic probes of relativistic nuclear collisions, and the information contained in their measurement. We concentrate in turn on sources that produce high pT photons: those of purely thermal origin, those producing direct photons, those related to jet fragmentation, and those associated with the interaction of jets with the colored plasma. Whenever possible, we compare with RHIC data and in some cases we make predictions for the LHC.

Characterization of low, medium and high energy collimators for common isotopes in nuclear medicine: A Monte Carlo study

Introduction:In an ideal parallel-hole collimator, thickness of septal material should be sufficient to stop more than 95% of incident photons. However, some photons pass the septa without interaction or experience scattering before they reach the detector. In this study, we determined different contribution of collimator responses consist of geometrical response, septal penetr...

Thermal photon production in high-energy nuclear collisions.

We use a boost-invariant one-dimensional (cylindrically symmetric) fluid dynamics code to calculate thermal photon production in the central rapidity region of S+Au and Pb+Pb collisions at SPS energy ( √ s = 20 GeV/nucleon). We assume that the hot matter is in thermal equilibrium throughout the expansion, but consider deviations from chemical equilibrium in the high temperature (deconfined) pha...

Elliptic flow of thermal photons in relativistic nuclear collisions.

We predict the transverse momentum (p(T)) dependence of elliptic flow of thermal photons for Au + Au collisions at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. We model the system hydrodynamically, with a thermalized quark-gluon plasma at early times followed by hadronization and decoupling. Photons are emitted throughout the expansion history. Contrary to hadron elliptic flow, which increases mono...

Matter & More in Nuclear Collisions

The aim of high energy nuclear collisions is to study the transition from hadronic matter to a plasma of deconfined quarks and gluons. I review the basic questions of this search and summarize recent theoretical developments in the field. 1. New States of Matter Statistical QCD predicts that high temperatures and baryon densities will lead to new states of strongly interacting matter. Increasin...

Signatures of Quark-Gluon Plasma Phase Transition in High-Energy Nuclear Collisions

In high-energy nuclear collisions, the new phase of the quark-gluon plasma is indicated by an anomalous increase in pressure, an excess of direct photon production, an excess of strangeness production, and an anomalous J/ψ suppression. We review these signatures and discuss how recent high-energy heavy-ion experiments at CERN are consistent with the production of the quark-gluon plasma in high-...
